Adventures in Cooking

I have always been amazed at the way my mom cooks.  She just knows that it needs some random spice and then with a shake of this and a dash of that, the dish she just made up is delicious!  Yeah...that's not the way my brain works.  My mom likes art...I like math.  She likes to make it up as she goes along...I crave a recipe.  Seriously...it amazes me when people cook like that.  It is one reason I prefer baking to cooking, but since man cannot live on bread alone, I must leave the world of flour.

Long story short...I got a recipe off Pioneer Woman.  Her pictures make it look delicious and easy.  I am here to tell you it is not as easy as it looks.  The recipe was for Spicy Dr. Pepper Shredded Pork.  Take a look...and assuming you have no aversion to pork...How good does that look!!!  Well, if you decide to make this...take the warning about the peppers to heart.  They made my dish so spicy I have to find a way to cool it down before I eat my leftovers.  From what I could taste before the heat from the peppers took over, it tasted alright.  So, overall...not exactly a success, but not a complete failure...it is edible after all.

To go along with my pulled pork I decided to try another of her recipes...Buttered Rosemary Rolls.  I am here to tell you these are as easy and delicious as the look.  I made extras to eat the next day...yeah...between my tendency to snack while I study, the incredible mountain of homework I have to conquer, and the yummy-ness of these rolls, they were gone before I went to bed.

Summary: One only-okay dish and one home run.

Note: Next time I tried pulled pork there will be no peppers.  *smile*

Yours affectionately,
A.H.
